# Discord alerts

> Send Expira expiry alerts to a Discord channel with a server webhook.

Expira posts alerts to a Discord channel through a server **webhook**. Each alert is an embed coloured by urgency, linking to the asset in the dashboard. Mentions are turned off, so an alert never pings anyone.

## Create the webhook in Discord

**1. Open the server's integrations**

In Discord, open **Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks**. You need the **Manage Webhooks** permission.

**2. Create a webhook**

Press **New Webhook**, name it (for example "Expira"), and choose the channel for alerts.

**3. Copy the URL**

Press **Copy Webhook URL**. It starts with `https://discord.com/api/webhooks/`.

## Connect it in Expira

1. Go to **Alerts → Delivery** and open **Personal** or a team's tab.
2. Under **Delivery channels**, press **Connect** on **Discord**.
3. Enter a **Name**, such as "#ops-alerts", and paste the **Webhook URL**.
4. Save, then press **Test**. A sample alert marked as a test appears in the channel.
5. Under **Alert preferences**, tick **Discord** under **Via** and press **Save preferences**.

The webhook URL is stored encrypted and never shown again. To change it, press **Edit** and paste a new one.
